The 112th IOC Session in Moscow elected Beijing as the host city on July 13, 2001 by following the recommendation of the IOC Evaluation Commission. The XXIX Olympiad in 2008 will leave a forever-lasting legacy to China and the world.


The "Bird's Nest"

The 2008 Summer Olympics opening and closing ceremonies along with soccer and track and field competitions will be held in the National Stadium, also called the "Bird's Nest". The 90,000-seat stadium is 1082 ft long, 722 ft wide, and 227 ft tall.
